About the Club

Braemar Golf Club was founded in March 1902, during the latter part of the golfing boom in Scotland.

The first task for the committee was to identify a suitable piece of land on which to develop a golf course. The following year was devoted to getting land for the golf course and finally the land at Croft Muickan was leased in 1903.

This land was developed into a nine hole course and the steadings converted into a clubhouse and a house for the greenkeeper.

The Club required funds and in August 1905 a Grand Bazaar was held to raise funds for the golf club. This two day event included a selection of stalls, concerts and recitals in the afternoons together with fishing, shooting and clock golf competitions.

The Grand Bazaar was a great success and during the following years further fund raising events were held. In 1908 the committee started looking into the feasability of developing the course into an eighteen hole facility. Finally in 1910 the lease of Cavan's Park was agreed, with the extended course opening in August 1911. Further changes were made to the layout of the course and in 1930 the present eighteen hole layout was completed.

Braemar Golf Club continued to flourish until the onset of the depression years, which hit the club hard. However the locals rallied round to rescue the Club and this determination and resourcefullness is what saw the Club through the depression, the war and the difficult years that followed.

In 1966 a licence was obtained for the Clubhouse, which helped to set the Club on a sounder financial footing and over the following years many improvements were made to the facilities. In 1976 the Steward's house was built and in the early 1980's the Clubhouse was expanded.

In the early 1990's the funds of the Club once again flourished and attention turned to the inadequacies of the Clubhouse. Plans for a new Clubhouse were developed and in the new Clubhouse finally opened to the Public in April 2000.

In 2002 the Braemar Golf Club celebrated it's Centenary and with the enthusiasm and determination this Club will continue to flourish.
